Birds of the Week April 14 2017
This week brought an assortment of large and small birds with some of the migrating songbirds entering the mix. Puffed-up Tom turkeys are strutting all around the northeast corner of Connecticut and when they can't be seen, they can be heard. A trip by Middle Reservoir in Killingly revealed Palm Warblers skipping all around my favorite cove, a first sighting this season.
The Five Mile River in Putnam has always been a wildlife hot spot and I was fortunate enough to see a river otter pop up out of the water with a catfish in its mouth. There was only time enough for a few quick shots before it dashed out of sight with its morning meal. Bird sightings on the river included Red-winged Blackbirds and Savannah Sparrows.
