Anyone who prefers to sleep with the windows open will know that during the late spring and summer months the bird chorus begins at approximately 4:30 AM.  Unlike some, I enjoy waking to the cheerful singing and like to soak in the various melodies before the man-made sounds fill the air.  Right around 5:30 AM the hum of cars, trucks and motorcycles can be heard from across the valley behind my home.  At 5:50 AM airplanes begin to take off from a faraway airport and the sky fills with the whooshing of jet engines.  Above all of the undesirable sounds that we have become so accustomed to, the little Indigo Bunting sings his heart out from dawn to dusk.  With all of the other songbirds seeming to take many siestas, the Indigo Bunting can be heard throughout the day dutifully filling the air with its pleasant canary-like song.
